Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Dribbling 2v2

Skill:

Play 2v1 with the defender only allowed to intercept the ball. The attacker's job is to pass and dribble the ball into the opposition end zone whilst if the defender wins the ball they can pass into either mini goal.

Coaching Points/Considerations for the Player:

1) Risk and Reward: Can I successfully take on this player or is it easier for my teammate to dribble and score?

2) Am I aware of where my teammate is and is my pass being blocked by the defender?

3) When I do not have the ball, can I create space to receive the ball and run at the end zone?

4) When I receive the ball, do I have an open body shape towards my target and have I taken a good first touch to move forward quickly and directly with the ball?

Progressions

1) Narrow the playing area.

2) Allow defender to make tackles.

3) Allow the defender to start with the ball.

4) Have a time limit to score before a 2nd defender enters the game.

Simplify

1) Widen playing area.

2) Defender has to start on back line of end zone before closing down players

3) Add in wide support players who can move up and down the outside of the sidelines to the pitch.

SSG

Normal 4v4 Game where we are encouraging players to be positive, direct and end their dribble with a shot on goal or a key pass which leads to a shot.

Coaching Points/Considerations:

1) Risk and reward - Awareness, have I identified who is around me and where I am on the pitch?

2) Can I make space for myself to get through to goal easily?

3) Can I get myself alone with one defender to create a 1v1?

4) Quick combinations to unsettle defenders organisation. (Overlaps and Underlaps)

5) Am I receiving the ball in such a way that I can quickly attack with the ball? Do I need to recover or use turns etc?
