Function (15 mins)
Setup: Reds playing 4-4-2 using centre mid, fullback, wide midfielder and striker
Blues playing 4-4-2 using 2 centre back, fullback and gk
Game: Gk throws or kicks long to red centre mid or fullback. Play is live but the ball must enter the wide area before a goal can be scored. Look to create 2v1 and 3v2 in the wide area. If blue steal they have 10 seconds to dribble across the line between the flags.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Condition: If play becomes congested - only the 3 wide players can play in the wide zone. They can enter the middle.
Problem: The blue fullback isn't leaving space for the through ball between the centre back.
Solution: Can the red fullback overlap to stretch the blues and if they can make that run and score this = 3 goals.
Problem: The blue fullback is shutting off space down the line.
Solution: Can the wide mid or fullback underlap to cut inside and create an overload with the striker in a 3v2 for 3 goals.
Individual challenge: How many times can the fullback over/underlap the wide midfielder during the function?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coaching Points:
* Create overloads in the wide areas
* Be positive - can you attack the fullback
* Timing and angle of the run to support the wide mid
* Decision making: pass or dribble in the final 3rd
