Description

16 players + 2Gk / Age Group: U19 / Duration 90 Min

Coaching points for the entire session:
The focus CP: Stay and keep it compact, move as unit together, communication, pressure cover balance and Intense Pressing & Closing-down.
The defensive line should shuffle across the pitch quickly, whilst players should maintain a distance of 5-7 meters between one another so as to ensure thatopposing players are unable to find spaces. 
The backline must stay compact and force the opposition into playing around,rather than through, central areas.
The defenders should look for triggers to push the defensive line up and squeezethe space whenever possible, especially when the attacking team play backwardpasses.
The back 4 should stay compact and organise the marking of oppositionplayers when operating in a low block and in the penalty area.
The defenders should pay attention to their positioning and body posture tokeep sight of attackers.
Encourage the goalkeeper and defenders to communicate with each other asthey constantly organise the back four.
Insist that attacking players use the full width of the pitch so as to stretch andtest the defensive line.

Warmup 1 (5 mins)

Coaching points:
Compact, maintain distance, move as unit, 

The centre-backs should stay compact and organize
Red Cones to insist that attacking players use the full width of the pitch to stretch and test the defensive line.

Explanation:
  • 9 players in each group, including one GK with every Group, so 5v4.
  • Players passing the ball to each other and the defensive line (blue team) moving together toward the ball to close the penetration. 
  • No challenge just moving slowly to have idea about the position and defensive shape, no high speed or intense just focusing on key aspects, such as maintaining a straight and compact defensive line, squeezing and moving whenever the ball is and preventing the opposition from finding gaps.

Warmup 2 (10 mins)

Explanation:
Mark out 20x15 Yard for each square. 5v4.

  • Warming up with challenge and try to warm up their decisions and solution finding.
  • GK for each group, can be outside, he needs to do minimum two touches with the ball
  • Blue team are the defenders, once they got it they can score in one of the small goals to gain 1 point.
  • Yellow team need to play 8 passes in a row to gain 1 point.

    CP:
    Communicate, pressure, cover, find gabs and through balls, deny passing lanes, Movement and support and body shape to receive.

Main Part 1 (15 mins)

Organization: 

  • GK+4v3
  • Three lines of attackers about 40 yards out and to have 3-4 defenders guarding one goal.
  • I call out a random attacker, which the defenders must communicate and react to, and he will drive with the ball and the other 2 follow him, which will create 3v4.
  • Changing the 4 blue players every 2 Minutes.


Coaching points:
Communication and moving as unit.
The focus is on the defenders talking to each other regarding who will cover which attacker; or when outnumbered, to defend against the greatest threat.

Pressure: Nearest player to the ball but in control, slow down on approach, tackle side on.

Main Part 2 (15 mins)

Organization:

Mark out a 40x25y pitch - 5v4 in each side.

The focus team (blue) need to stop the ball to go the other side, if they stop it they can score in the 2 small goals (Think those small goals are DM #6 and CM #8) 

If the yellow success to penetrate the blue 4 defensive line, the ball will restart from the other GK of the yellow team in the other side.

Coaching points:

1 -Pressure, cover and balance
2 - Stay and Keep it compact

3 - move as unit together

The defensive line should shuffle across the pitch quickly, whilst players should maintain a distance of 5-7 meters between one another to ensure that opposing players are unable to find spaces.

The back line of four must stay compact and force the opposition into playing around, rather than through, central areas.

Main Part 3 (15 mins)

Organization:
Mark out 70x30Y

GK+6vGK+6 (4 Blue players subs for the 4 back line, they switch every 2 minutes)

Information:
Yellow shape: GK-2-1-3 regarding formation of 4-3-3
Blue shape GK-4-2 regarding formation of 4-4-2

Think about the small goals are RM and LF regarding our formation 4-4-2

Repetition: Ball always restart from the yellow team GK.

Restriction:

  • The Blue DM #6 can move up and track back to help the back four, and enter the middle zone as soon as the pass is made.  
  • If the Blue win possession, there are no longer any restrictions in regard to the zones or lines.
  • The CB's #5 and #4 player's from the yellow team and #8 CM from the blue, they can't pass or enter the purple line or be in the zone.

    Coaching Points:
  • Compactness vertically & horizontally
  • maintain a distance, move as unit and stay organize.
  • Communicate 
The team remains closely-knit both horizontally and vertically and this is the main reason why the team is able to defend in orientation to where the ball is as they cannot afford any gaps between the lines

Giving freedom to Yellow CM #8 player to step up and back, which will challenge more the back 4 and will give us 5v5 in the attacking situation.

Game - Match (20 mins)

Organization:

In the game, we play a 9 v 9 including GK's in 3/4 of a full sized pitch as shown in the picture.


Information:

The attacking team set up in a 2-3-3 formation (2 CB, 3 midfielders and 3 strikers).• The defending team adopt a 4-4 formation (a back 4 and 4 midfielders).

 
Coaching Points:

  • Pressure, cover and balance
  • Stay and Keep it compact
  • Line up when is possible
  • Maintain space and communicate.

More key coaching points:

The attacking team should seek to make the pitch as wide as possible with aview to creating gaps in the defensive line. 

• Both teams should maintain a good distance between the defensive line and the midfielders to deny the opposition space in which to play. 

• The defending team should keep a high line and, where possible, push up and force the opposition back, particularly when the opposition play backward passes. 

• If the attacking team lose possession, they should immediately counter-press to prevent the defending side from advancing up the pitch with the ball. 

• When in a low block, the centre-backs need to organize their marking to ensure that attacking players are well marshalled. 

• Paying attention to positioning and body orientation enables defenders to keep sight of attacking players in and around the penalty area
