Description:Zone defense – 5+20mins
Organisation:
- Two Teams 8v8
- Reduced Pitch, penalty area

Objective:areas to defend, identify players responsible todefend the areas. Compact defending
CoachingPoints:
· Zone A: very dangerous, the front post is vulnerable.
· Zone B: it’s the main area protected by the GK.
· Zone C: it’s the biggest area and very dangerous.
· Zone D: it’s the nearest to A.
· Zone E: the most dangerous area.
· Zone F: it’s the area of defence first clearance, commit to advancethe opponents.
Yellow TeamSetup and choice of defenders.
1. Yellow Player at 9.15mt: Short defense isthere to deter any short play and close the attacker if there is a short playon. Also, he must push up immediately after the corner kick for outsid-ingthe corner kicker.
2. Zone A: Yellow defender must be good toadvance the opponent both with feet and head.
3. Zone B: GK area, GK must commit to holdor deflect the ball supported by 3 yellow players.
4. Zone C: the yellow player must be tall withgreat aerial abilities.
5. Zone D: the yellow player must be fastand good 1v1.
6. Zone E: Yellow player with high aerialabilities and courage.
7. Zone F: Yellow players ready to interveneafter the first clearance.
Execution:
Take 5 mins to explain& setup roles and expectations from each yellow players and gettingfamiliar with theirs and other Zonal players positions without the attackingteam (no over-coaching). Both from right and left corners (2.5mins each).
Pink team takes thecorner kick. Yellow Team players must defend the assigned area.
Zonal players mustcommit to getting a head on the ball.
After ball getscleared and GK calls for team to push up, it must be done quickly but in stages(catch up/push up)
Zonal players mustcommit to getting a head on the ball.
Zonal players catch upwith opposite bumpers.
Entire group aims toprevent the ball to reach the Pink Players and in case create density to avoid thePink’s to score.
Yellow players torefrain bringing hands on the air as it can provoke a penalty.
Alternate left and right corner kicks.
