Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Analytical: Finishing

Finishing Competition (10 mins)

Setup:

• 12 players
• Cones
• Balls
• 3 lines with 4 players in each line

• 4 players in each line, with one player at the cone closest to the lineup and another player at the cone 5 yards away, facing away from goal.
• The ball is passed to the player with back to goal and the player turns and finishes from 10 yards out by trying to knock one of the two balls off the cone. Replace any balls knocked off the cones. 1 point for every ball struck off a cone.
• Play 2 minute rounds to find a winner of the round.

• Accuracy over power
• Follow through of the kicking foot toward the target
• Eye on the ball when striking the ball

Finishing Screen 2 (20 mins)

Setup:

• 12 players
• Cones
• Balls
• Large goal with keeper

• The second sequence after the CF finishes on goal from 10 to 15 yards out from goal.
• The CM passes the ball diagonally player on the right i.e. player 3, who is running down the line to receive the pass.
• As soon as pass is made, all 4 players attack goal to provide support in the box.
• Player 3 crosses the ball and one of the players finishes on goal.
• The runs of each player should be as shown on the diagram.
• The next group passes the ball to the left, i.e. player 4, who will cross the ball toward goal.

• The 4 players who just took their turn to attack, immediately defends the 4 player sequence, not the 1 player sequence.

• Eye on the ball when striking the ball
• Timing of run and angle of run (going too far away from the post makes it difficult to finish)
