Repetition waves 2v1, 3v2, 4v3, 5v4. Then switch sides. If the defender wins the ball, they can counter-attack. If both teams have counter-attacked, play goes dead and next wave begins. Players who do not partake in the first round of waves can practise skills or have a 1v1+1 etc.
Adaptations: If more players have use three goals and use the same defenders for each round, going from 1v2, 2v3 and then 3v4.
- If defence win the ball a team mate can join attack and make it like for like.
Coaching points:
- Defender to jockey be on toes and Delay attack as much as possible.
- Stay on feet and react calmly and intelligently, block but dont lunge /slide.
- Defenders look to recover goal side, while attackers are delayed in transition.

4v4+2 or similar - Team in possession always has 2 neutral players assisting, these can be wide or central players. Alternate neutral players to give all players experience of playing against an overload.

4v2 Rondos (or can do 4v3 or 4v2+1) - players can retreat outside the square or enter the square, they can be tackled if they enter the square, if the defender touches the ball, the last player to pass the ball becomes the defender. 2 games with 2 teams. For every pass, each team gets a point, if the ball is passed between 2 defenders, the team pass is worth 3.
Progressions make it 4+4v4 where the the team out of possession is against 8 with both areas joined up.
- Team which wins the ball tries to keep it for as long as possible.
Coaching points:
Press & cover- nearest player to put pressure on the ball to force errorm second defend to cover potential passing lane.
Drop and look to occupy closest passing lanes and intercept/ win the ball.
