Description

1st session of Fall.

Aims to build upon teamwork, communication, passing, running and movement skills. These basics are key elements where pre-season training is concerned because everything we go on to coach throughout the course of the season is based around these specific foundations.

It uses a ball in each practice and helps players combine technical skills with positioning and movement, both as drills and team games.

Passing/Fitness Circuit (10 mins)

Passing/Running Circuit

1. Red Passes to yellow and starts diagonal run around pole.

2. Picks up ball dribbles to next cone and stops it.

3. Runs around the last pole and joins the back of his line. 

Red clockwise - Yellow counter-clockwise.

Variation- 1. diagonal pass. 

2. straight pass, run diagonal (no dribble)

2 Box (15 mins)

Ball starts with coach or neutral player.

4 passes for point, before long ball to other coach or neutral and transition, occurs to next box.

5 minutes/game -90 second rest.

2010- 5v5 with resting group (or add 2 boxes (4 total) with a player on each end with 6v6)

Possession in Half (15 mins)

Team out of possession sends up to 4 players to press and win and switch the ball back to their half. Retreat and keep possession. 

Variation: Add goalkeepers on either end

Halfway Line + Numbers Game (20 mins)

1. Goal only counts if entire team is across the halfway line. If all defending team is not back in their half when goal scored, double the point. 

Variation

2. All players are numbered. One team - me, one team - Jay. The number yelled must run around 1 pole (then 2) before returning to play, which should open up space for teams to attack.

Stations - Strength & Stamina (10 mins)

  • Group #1 starts at cone #1 with 10 push-ups before sprinting to cone #2.
  • At cone #2, group #1 performs 10 sit-ups, then sprints to the cone #3.
  • At cone #3, group #1 performs 10 squat jumps (perform by squatting down slowly and then jumping as high as possible out of the squat), and sprints to the cone #4.
  • At cone #4, group #1 performs 10 push-ups again, and sprints to the cone #5.
  • At cone #5, group #1 performs 10 sit-ups again, then sprints to the cone #6.
  • At cone #6, group #1 performs 10 knee jumps, and sprints past cone #1 to complete their repetition and start their rest.
  • As soon as a group starts sprinting to the cone #3, the next group in line can start their turn.
  • After the last group has finished their trip, the group rests for 45-90 seconds before having group #1 start again.

  • V1- Push-ups, Squat Jumps, Lunges, Push Ups, Burpees, Lunges
  • V2- Push Ups, Tuck Jumps, Skiers, Push Ups, Mountain Climbers, Squats
Variations-

1. Higher reps - more strength / Lower reps - more stamina
2. Tuck jumps, squats, lunges, mountain climbers, burpees, etc.
