Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Compactness defensive shape.

Set up: Half pitch with big goal, 2 target goals on halfway line positioned as shown. 2 teams defensive 1-4-2-1, attacking 1GK server 2WB, 2 CM, 2 Forwards. Shaded area just outside box in central area. Yellow GK plays for both teams. 

Reds attempt to play out and score in either target goal or into yellow player.

Blues look to play from Yellow to score into the big goal, if they play through shaded central area they score 3 points. 

Key Points: Reds defensive compact shape out of possession 10 yrds apart, width and depth

Midfield to attempt to cut out passing lanes to strikers, don't be dragged out to WB unless they cut inside.

Back 4 work as compact unit to prevent passes going in behind, don't be dragged out of position, engage attackers when they have the ball. 

Be patient & compact rather than coming out of position to press, be organised & hard to beat then win the ball at the rights times & counter.
