  • Constant attacking overload - encourage committing the defender and suitable pass mechanics, width etc
  • Coaching process - clarify mechanics and step in
  • Defender incentivised to score at the other end

  • 6 players work in pairs and start with the ball trying to score goals
  • 5 players steps up to defend the goal 1 at a time
  • If Blue player wins the ball, that player can score in the opposite cones with the two red players defending
  • Once a goal is scored or the ball has gone out of play the next set of players are live starting with the reds again
  • Regression could be remove defenders and put a gate to pass through before scoring

Attacking Overload Increments (5 mins)

Key Factors

  • Session structured to always have an overload up to 5 v 5
  • Quick transitions from attack to defence
  • Keep high tempo by having balls ready and commencing play once the ball goes out or putting time limit on getting shots away

Organisation

- Play as two teams, with players organised at opposite ends of the pitch.

- Each pair behind the goal need a ball.

- Play starts with Red who go 1v1 with the GK.

- As Red shoots, 2x Blue players come onto the pitch to create a 2v1 in the opposite direction. As soon as Blue shoot, 2x Red players come onto the pitch and now create a 3v2. The game continues as a wave until 5v4 and then 5v5 so all player play

Look to reverse the order on round 2

  • Objectives/Key Coaching points

    - Encourage quick reaction in the attacking and defensive transition.

    - Players should look to play forward early to exploit the overload.

    - Introduce the underlap/overlap

    Progression

    - Progress into a SSG.

    - Introduce offside line appropriate to age level.

  • Look to engage the defender
