Coach Task 4: Your team is winning1-0 with ten minutes to go in an important game. Plan out a small sided game to rehearse withyour team in training how you would play out the final ten minutes of the game?
How are you going to defend andattack?
Defending - We would set up slightly deeper so that we reduce the chance of balls over the top and look to sit on an imaginary line on the edge of the final 3rd. Looking to make the opposition play through us.Keys Points would be:
How might you utilise yourassistant coach?
The assistant coach would be used to talk to the defence keep them focused and understand their positioning and making sure they keep their discipline both in and out of possession. We'd also be communicating about what the opposition are doing when in come to pushing players forward so we can make adjustments to our player positioning. What challenges/conditions/targetsare you going
to employ for both teams?
Opposition team would be looking to get the ball forward, quickly and tending to play longer balls into the Wide and forward players.
I would challenge the Oppostion players to getting the ball into the final 3rd within 10 seconds of play starting.
Out of possession Team ( Reds) in part 1 of the drill would be looking to:
Reduce breaking lines passes
Stop balls over the top.
Keep the units tight to force the opposition to play across them and not player through.
Apply pressure on the ball when not isolated
The SSG
8v8 + GK for the reds.
Reds 2 banks of 4
Blues 3 forwards midfield 5.
The Session
Ball will start with blue team in their own half they will be looking to score. Throwing the ball forward in a desperate bid to get back in the game. They will ne tasked to do what ever they can to score. If they lose possession they will fight to put pressure on and win the ball back as fast as possible.
Red Team
Win the ball back and relieve the pressure by working the ball into one of the wide areas. Key focus is to secure possession and play percentage football but retaining possession.

Task 11.1 Dealing with a 10
Coach Task 1: Considering theimportance of the opposition, if you were planning a session on dealing with a#10. What would be the main principlesyou would work to? What would be the main focus of the session?
Please plan a specific practice andwork to defensive principles to stop the opposing #10 getting on the ball.
If you do use SSP please insertillustrations into these pages and delete as appropriate.
Specific Practice. - Stopping the 10 receiving the ball.
Session focus - Stopping breaking lines passing - man marking the 10 to reduce his affect on the game.
Key FactorsOrganisation
Focus of the session
Part 1
The midfield 4 will need to keep compact whilst applying pressure to the ball. The understanding of how compact they need to be will come with practice. Too close together will stop the pass but a quick switch from the in possession team will leave a ball into the 10. Too far apart and the red's will be able to pass through.
Part 2
The 2 CB will need to stay close and mark the 10 to make him unavailable for the pass and if he should receive the pass he stays with his back to goal and not allow the turn.
An alternative tactic could be play with a 3-5-2 formation playing with a DCM who picks up the #10 and offers a forward shield blocking the pass into feet with the 3CB stopping the ball over the top.
