Warm Up - 5v5+4 Simple Counter Press (15 mins)


Set Up:

  • 35x35m
  • Divide players into three teams (one will be bouncing in the middle - focus on body positioning and scanning)

Organisation:

  • Green and Yellow players work together to keep the ball away from the Blue team and make a certain number of passes.
  • When the defending team gets the ball, they start attacking by passing to a neutral player, joining the outside area.
  • The team that lost the ball becomes the new defenders in the middle.

Work to Rest Ratio:

  • 3 minutes of play with 1-minute rest intervals.
  • Play for 20min max.

Coaching Points:

  • Accurate passes.
  • Effective pressing techniques for the defending team.
  • Quick positioning after regaining possession.
  • Scanning.
  • Mobility. 

Progressions:

  • Add another ball for skilled players to stay sharp.
  • Change the field size if teams have trouble keeping the ball.

SSG - Quick Finishes (15 mins)

Set Up:

  • Area: 50x30 space divided into halves
  • 3v3 in each half, with one team defending with a GK
  • Players must stay in their own zones - add progressions progressively (refer to progression section)

Organisation:

  • Blue team continues attacking focus to create scoring opportunities
  • Yellow team acts as 1-touch bounce players
  • Teams keep track of wins to maintain competitiveness

Work to Rest Ratio:

  • Teams rotate every 3 minutes

Coaching Points:

    • Think about scoring goals
    • Make good passes and talk to teammates to make better decisions
    • Try different moves and work together to score
    • Remember to take charge of your actions, like shooting, scoring, and winning games

Progressions:

  • After passing the ball beyond the halfway line, a player can join the attack
  • Let players dribble past the line to join the attack
  • Allow players to score before the halfway line on a combination play (first time/two touch max)

Set Up:

3+4v3

2 Zones : Possession Zone and Finishing Zone 

Organisation:

In the 4v3 players must keep the ball for 10 consecutive passes
(reduce it to 5 for more success)

After securing possession successfully, they can now attack the goal
(allow defenders out of the 4v3 area to increase the challenge)

Meanwhile the Striker utilises the end players to pass move around a defender and shoot first time 
When the team comes to attack ST joins the attack (instigate combination play between ST and Wingers)

Wide players take turns on the respective markers
