Specific Practice (10 mins)

Objectives

Solve playing out the back by finding the free player or creating an overload.

Organisation

1x 11-a-side goal

2x mini goals

Half 11-a-side pitch

2 zones - 6 yard box to side line, height of 18-yard box

Timings

3x 6 minute sets

Intervene when required

Key Points

Height, Width, and Depth

Breaking lines

Overlaps / Underlaps

High ball speed

Rotation

Coaching Interventions

- Concurrent - Terminal - Walk Through - Coaching Process

Explanation

Play will always begin from the green goalkeeper and will play to either of the centre backs. The centre backs will look to maintain their position within the marked zones to maintain depth. Either of the wide players are unable to access this area (when in possession) to maintain height and also width by being close to the side lines. The reds need to progress the ball through the midfield and work to score in the mini goals. The reds can only score in the goal by setting the ball back off a one touch finish. The red team will be coached with the attacking principles to play out. The blue team will be managed to defend the two mini goals and produce a press when defending. As they win possession of the ball, they will look to score in the 11-a-side goal.

Progression

- Encourage movement off the ball from the midfielders to create overlapping and underlapping runs and coach how they can create overloads.

- Ask the midfielders to rotate.

- Midfielder to merge into the back line to push the wide players higher if the 2 blue forwards dont press.

- Time for the reds to score when progressed into the midfield.

-If the blue team will the ball, give them 10 seconds to score

Regression

- Allow for the wide player to drop into the same box as the defender to create a 2v1.

Measuring Success

- How many times the red team play out?

- How many times the red team score in the mini goals?

- What overloads can they produce?

SSG (15 mins)

Objectives

Solve playing out the back by finding the free player or creating an overload.

Organisation

2x 11-a-side goal

Half 11-a-side pitch

1-4-3-1 vs 1-2-3-2

Timings

3x 6 minute sets

Intervene when required

Key Points

Height, Width, and Depth

Breaking lines

Overlaps / Underlaps

High ball speed

Rotation

Coaching Interventions

- Concurrent - Terminal - Walk Through - Coaching Process

Explanation

Play will always begin from the green goalkeeper and will play to either of the centre backs. Make sure the two red wide players maintain their width and height to create space to receive but also enable more time for the centre backs. If they drop, it will allow for the blue team to step up, make the area compact and tighter to play out of. The red team will be coached with the attacking principles to play out. The blue team will be managed to defend the two mini goals and produce a press when defending. As they win possession of the ball, they will look to score in the 11-a-side goal against green goalkeeper.

- If the blue team will the ball, give them 10 seconds to score

Regression

- Add a Neutral player to create more an overload by placing them in the midfield area.

Measuring Success

- How many times the red team play out?

- How many times the red team score in the mini goals?

- What overloads can they produce?
