Coaching Points:

Cues to tackle vs delay:

bad first touch from attacker; slow pace of the pass; too long touch from the forward.

Where should the first defender provide pressure on a flank attacker:

at an angle that denies the attacker a penetrating pass or cross, or the ability to continue down the flank and forces the play into the central channel and covering defenders.

Screen 3

Organization:

2/3 of a full size pitch.

7 attackers (white)

7 defenders (blue)

1 goalkeeper (yellow)

1 target player (red) Start position where the yellow cone is. The teams play in specific formations. The defending team = 4-2-1. The attacking team = 2-3-2. T1 can move up and down behind the line of cones.

Instructions:

The white attacking team combines with each other using the flank player to create opportunities on goal. The starting position allows for play to go out to the wing. The restart positions from the yellow cone. The defending team scores by passing into the target player.

Coaching Points:

Discuss both individual and group defending in wide positions.

For the full back pressing, in general force the attacking player outside to the touch line to isolate. May be situations where you could force inside to weaker foot or if you need support to deal with pace of attacker.

Control speed of approach so no to dive in.

Angle of approach.

slide tackle should be a last option.

Prevent Crosses and Shoots.

Feint to tackle.

Focus. Eyes on the ball at all times.

Progressions:

Perform on both side of the field
