Game called: Battle Goal-ale
2v2 in playing area. 4 neutrals on outside. 2 neutrals on goal line can move across the line. 2 neutrals on top of the box can move across the line.
Scoring a goal = 1 point
Scoring a goal from assist from neutral = 2 points
Scoring a 1 touch goal from assist from neutral = 3 points
If ball goes out off of defense, Offense ball
If ball goes out off of offense, defense becomes offense
If defense wins the ball in play, they have to find top of the box neutrals first to become offense
On offense, Neutrals can play to each other
Coaching points:
- Playing it safe vs Going for goal
I want my players to understand timing and when it is the perfect time to go for goal. Scoring the goal is the endgame, but possession of the ball is valuable, and the build up to a goal is a work in progress.
- Movement off the ball vs Movement with ball
Work off the neutrals. Use their movement without the ball to get the defenders out of position. Same goes for when they have the ball, but understand they have the prized possession. Act with purpose
- Defense works on transitioning, winning the ball, and then flipping the switch
Win the ball, job isn't done. Can we find neutrals that are up the field, and now think offensively?
- Neutrals providing angles
Constantly moving to receive the ball. Very important piece to puzzle. With a pass from neutral, the attacking team can score more points.

3v3 Offense vs Defense
2 defenders vs 1 attacker + neutral (inside) + 2 neutrals on outside
Neutral on inside: Constant offense for whatever team on offense
Neutrals on outside: On team with possession of ball
Offense trying to score goal.
Defense trying to stop offense, win possession and push it forward to their attacking side.
Only one defender can move up into offensive zone to help attacker.
Same coaching points as activity, this time 2 goals, so transitioning is advanced.
- Keeping the ball vs penetrating pass into offensive zone
- When/Where to make forward run into offensive zone as defender
