Warm Up

Organization:

As shown. 4 attacking and 4 defending players per grid including the GK and CB stoodin the center of the end line as shown.

2 20x10 grids, 1 goal and 2 gate per grid.

Instructions:

Technical Jockeying- The warm-up begins with the attacker's first step. On their first touch the defender has to close down the space to the attacker as show. Once they arrive to the attacker, the defender is to force the defender to either side towards one of the two gates. After reaching the end of the grid, each player returns to the back of the line they were just in.

Coaching Points:

Apply pressure to the attacker quickly, slow down on approach.

Angle of approach

Arm's length distance from attacker

Knee's bent

Side-on body shape to force attacker one direction

GK/CB communicte to defender which was to force the attacker "right" "left" "inside" "outside"

Progressions:

Add the ball but the defenders are to remain semi-oppossed jockeying

Phase 1

Organization:

As shown; balls at left entry point. Defending team will play in a 1-4-1-2, Attacking team will play with 2 defender to serve, 3 midfielders and 3 forwards.

Instructions:

The attacking will start will always start and re-start the game from the designated server. The attacking team's objective is to score while the defending team can either dribble through the wide gates or pass into the samll goal at the center of the field. In this phase the attacking team must play the outside backs first when penetrating into the final third. The 3 forwards must stay in the attacking third while the 3 midfilders must stay in the middle third. For the defending team, the goalkeeper, defense and defensive midfielder must stay in their third while the attacking midfielders must stay in the middle third.

Coaching Points:

1st defender applies pressure to close down space on angled approach arm's length distance from attacker

2nd defender slides over to provide cover at a deep angle

The rest of defenders shift across to stay compact eliminating gaps in defense and maintain balance

The goalkeeper organizes the defense by seeing the opposition and the ball, communicates who to pressure and where to force based on distance to the touch line and numbers to support

Phase 2

Organization:

As shown; balls at center entry point. Defending team will play in a 1-4-1-2, Attacking team will play with 2 defender to serve, 3 midfielders and 3 forwards.

Instructions:

The attacking team must now advance into the attacking third then pass back into the middle third before going to goal as shown. The defending line must start on the 18'.

Coaching Points:

1st defender applies pressure to close down space on angled approach arm's length distance from attacker

When the ball is played back to maintain possesion, the defensive line should move up with the CB's in line.

The goalkeeper organizes the defense by seeing the opposition and the ball, communicates when to move the line up.

Phase 3

Organization:

As shown; balls at all entry points. Defending team will play in a 1-4-1-2, Attacking team will play with 2 defender to serve, 3 midfielders and 3 forwards.

Instructions:

The attacking team will start will always start and re-start the game from the designated server commanded by coach. For the defending team, the goalkeeper, defense and defensive midfielder must stay in their third starting and start at the retention line (blue) for this phase until the ball is played in the air, while the attacking midfielders must stay in the middle third. The attacking team must play direct into the attacking third over the top.

Coaching Points:

The 1st defender must recover to apply pressure to prevent the cross.

The 2nd defender must get in a position close enough to provide cover or drop in front of goal to clear out the cross, don't get caught in no man's land.

The rest of the defense should drop together as a unit to clear out the cross.

Goalkeeper should be ready to come off his line to catch or punch.

1st defender closing down space to pressure the attacker on the ball

2nd defender providing cover

Providing balance and staying compact

Shifting across the field as a defensive unit to eliminate gaps

Stepping up as a unit when the ball is played backwards

Dropping off as a unit when the ball is played over the top

Goalkeeper recognizing when to come off line to punch or catch vs. stay

Goalkeeper communicating to individuals and organizing defense

Communication to outside backs from center backs
