1P:1B (Magnets)

Players dribbling in the playing area, each with a ball. When players get near another player, they change direction using different COD moves:

  • Inside Cut
  • Outside Cut
  • Conti (sole, in front of the body)
  • Maradona (around and past the other player)

After the move, players accelerate into space to escape the other player.

Coaching Points:

  • Practice using both feet to change direction
  • Practice using different surfaces to change direction
  • Use an escape touch after the COD touch to accelerate quicker (one touch to change direction and one touch to accelerate)
  • Accelerate away from the defender after changing direction
  • Can the players get the timing right to change direction before contacting the other players?
Add Challenge:
  • Require inside, outside, or bottom of the foot to change direction each round
  • The player who changes direction the most times in one minute wins the round
  • Can the players communicate with each other to meet more players and score more points?

1v1 Possession

1v1 Possession

Two players per small grid. Players take turns keeping possession from the other player. The defender attempts to knock the ball out of the area, and the attacker attempts to keep the ball inside the area for as long as possible. After the attacker loses the ball, switch roles. The player that keeps the ball in the area longer wins the round. Rotate players each round.

Coaching Points:

  • Shield the ball from the defender by putting your body between them and the ball
  • Change direction and move the ball if the defender gains a positional advantage
  • Keep the ball moving to make it more difficult for the defender to touch the ball
  • Use the sole of the foot to have more power and control on the ball
  • Value the ball and having possession
Add Challenge:Can the defender win possession and keep it within the area by using the sole of the foot to take the ball?

1v1 to Gates (Spin Moves)

1v1 to Gates

Two lines of players (attackers and defenders) with gates on the sides. Defenders serve a ball in to the attackers, who score by dribbling through either gate to score.

If the defenders win the ball, they may score by dribbling past the attackers' line.

Coaching Points:

  • Take a positive first touch toward one of the gates
  • Keep the ball close to maintain control & be able to change direction at any time
  • Change direction when the defender is near to protect the ball and evade
  • If the defender is near, use the correct foot/move to change direction and shield the ball from the defender, rather than playing in front of them
  • Accelerate after changing direction to escape the defender
  • Can the players be successful changing direction?
  • If the defenders catch on, can the players use hesitations or fake changes of direction to fool them?

Add Challenge:
  • Require one sole touch before scoring
  • Require on change of direction before scoring
  • Require one spin move before scoring
