4 v 4 with 4 goals (30 mins)
Set-up:
Square pitch with a middle line and a goal in each corner, parallel to the other corner.
Equipment:
8 poles, 4 mini goals, cones
Description:
Team that don't have possession of the ball are not allowed into the other teams half
Key point:
Closest CM drops to support/act as pivot point, that CM opens up on back foot to play to the other side, other CM makes a blind side run forward (to attack/act as a forward pivot point), be patient etc.
BLOCK 1:
1 point for every time the ball goes in the mini goal/between the posts
BLOCK 2:
1 point if the ball is passed into the mini goal/between the posts. 2 points if the ball is dribbled between the posts
Purpose:
Attackers evaluate where the options are, they are encouraged to hit a certain area but aware of a ‘Plan B’
Progression if needed: 1 defender can go into the other half etc.

Pass & Switch (20 mins)
Set-up:
Short, wide pitch with the 4 corners as highlighted areas.
Equipment:
cones for marking pitch, flats for marking corner areas, 2 11-a-side goals, balls, 8 bibs of each colour & 2 different colours.
Description:
8 vs 8. Players must enter a box either side of their own goal before moving the ball into the opposite attacking area (yellow/right to red/left) before making a shooting opportunity.
Purpose:
Encourage quick switches in the attacking 3rd of the pitch and then how to turn wide positions into goalscoring opportunities.
Progression if needed:
Change the size of the areas (larger if too difficult, smaller if too easy)

Switching Play - Conditioned Game
Set-up:
6 v 6 in the middle with 2 neutrals in each end zone. Each team sets out in a 3-3 formation across the length of the pitch. Teams have to get the ball into the neutrals at the other end to score. Once a goal is scored, the ball is played into the other team.
Pivot Points:
1 - From LM to CM who opens up and plays to RM
2 - LM plays into the neutral (CB) who plays wide to RM
3 - LM pass forward into the striker who opens up and plays to the RM
Key points - Pivot points as above, switch quickly, play forward, play side ways, play backwards, be patient etc.
Progress into a 8 v 8 with teams playing a 3-3-1 formation.

Set-up:
Pitch split into 3 areas (2 square zones at either end with a narrower channel as a middle zone). 3 groups of 5 (group of 6 if additional numbers)
Equipment:
cones/flats, balls, 6 bibs of each colour & 3 different colours.
Description:
Attacking teams at the far areas at either end of the pitch and defenders placed in the middle zone. Ball starts with one attacking group and they must make 3 successful passes before they can pass the ball to the far attacking team. Repeat and pass back. 2 of the 5 defenders can enter the box where the attackers have the ball while the other 3 look to block the switch-pass. If defenders win the ball then they switch with the attackers and roles are reversed.
BLOCK 1:
No limit on touches
BLOCK 2:
Limited to 3 touches
Purpose:
encourage quick ball movement and fast switches to utilise space before the opposition is able to get set.
Progression if needed:
1 attack from the team which don’t have the ball can enter the defenders box to provide a short passing option
