Social Players need to communicate with each other and demand the ball |
Overview
Practice can be duplicated to cater for larger groups of players. Players perform the above passing sequence : 2 to 7, 7 to 4, 4 to 11, 11 to 3. When 3 receives the final pass, he dribbles at speed back to the start. All players follow their pass.
Repeat sequence from opposite side.
Coaching Points
Pre-movement
It is important that players check away from the cone/mannequin to replicate moving away and finding space away from pressure. This makes their first touch can be made in more space and the pass towards them has a greater distance in which to be accurate.
Body shape when receiving
Players will need to open up their body towards the next target pass to speed up the passing sequence.
Ball speed
The speed of passing needs to be maximal and at match pace. Ball striking must be clean and consistent with player's making firm contact on the ball and passing with tempo along the ground.
Communication
Players should demand the ball verbally and also through their positive body language which provides detail to the passer non-verbally.
Progressions
Coach can create different ways for the players to combine with each other at each point
On a given signal, the direction of the pattern can be changed with the ball going the opposite way
Regressions
Players can be asked to slow down the tempo of their passing until the sequence can be completed with accuracy and consistency.
