Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Playing through the Thirds (Central Playmaker)

Playmaker (15 mins)

Equipment

Cones, Footballs, 2 x Goals, Bibs 2/3 colours.

Set Up

-Mark out an appropriate sized pitch for your team and divide into thirds.

-2 x Teams devided equally with 2 x Attackers and 2 x Defenders in each end third(Adjust to suit numbers),

-1 x Neutal Player in the middle third.

-2 x Goalkeeprs if available(if not use 2 x Mini-Nets in each goal for accuracy finishing)

Objective

Starting from either GK move the ball out to a defender who has to work the ball to the Neutral Player in the middle third, The Neutral player must then play a ball through to the Attacking players who look to attack the goal, if the Defenders win the ball off the attackers they then work the ball to the Neutral player who then turns and plays the ball to the attackers and so on.

Conditions

-No players allowed in the middle third other than the Neutal player.

-When the attackers are in possesion they cannot pass back to the Neutral player(If they do the Neutral player must turn and player to the opposite Attackers)

Coaching Points

-Can the Defenders look to play out quickly and directly into the middle third?

-Can the Neutral Player turn quick and look to build an attack/choose the best pass?

-Can the Attackers work together to create space and made a timed run into space.
