Description

Organisation (Practice Layout & Transition)

12 players will participate in this session. Six will be given blue pinnies, six will receive red pinnies. Area size will be set up at 32m x 40m and noted by cones. A total of 8 balls will be required for the session. Tech, skill and SSG will use the full space, while warm-up will only require a smaller area of 15m x 40m inside the grid. 4 pugg nets for final SSG as well

Mechanics to be observed: on toes, eye on the ball, body position in line with the ball, determine surface to receive the ball, relax on impact

Physical Pillar- A,B,C's will be worked with to support balance and control

Technical Pillar- using multiple surfaces of body to bring ball in control in first touch

Social Pillar- decision making on where to move to be in line as well as which surface provides best chance for control

Psychological Pillar- remaining calm to be more relaxed on the touch, building confidence to receive and control a ball on ground, in air

Warm-up (5 mins)

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

Players separated into 3 groups of 4; each group forms two lines of 2 players, facing each other approximately 10m apart. Player A passes to player B on the ground and follows the pass. Player B takes a touch to control the pass, then passes the ball to the next player across from them and follows that pass. Repeat.

Coaching Points- must be two touch on the pass as the goal is to get control. Coach can direct the players to pass to either foot to work on receiving the ball with both feet

Progression- Player A picks up the ball and lofts a pass to Player B in the air, to be taken off the chest and brought to feet and sent back. Player A follows the pass as before, as does Player B

Regression- reduce the space in between the lines if players can't make an accurate first pass

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

Coach will add in some dynamic stretches to players throughout the activity while the players remain in their groups for warmup

Technical (20 mins)

Activity set-up: use full 32m x 40m space; separate into 3 zones. Team A in blue and Team B in red occupy outside areas, while smaller middle zone is unoccupied. Team A must serve the ball in air (can be volleyed) from their own zone to Team B, ensuring the ball lands in Team B zone and NOT in the middle area. Team B must control the ball out of the air, allowing a maximum of one touch on the ground but not letting the ball leave the zone. If the ball lands in Team B zone and then leaves the area OR after the bounce, Team B lets the ball hit the ground again before returning the ball to Team A zone, Team B gets a point.

(similar rules to Tennis or Volleyball)

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

Regression- allow two bounces in the other zone before ball is returned without penalty; if team's can't get ball across neutral zone with volley's - allow tossing it in the air; allow ball to hit ground once per player in area on their touch

Progressions- don't allow ball to hit the ground at all before the team first touch; allow a player to control the ball in the air and pass it to another player (in the air) in their zone to be returned to other side

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

Set game to 7 points and run a ''best of three'' round; challenge players to take a ball off the chest and keep it up with a leg/foot to then return;

Skill (20 mins)

Activity set-up: use same zones as in technical warm-up (12m x 40m) and run two 4v2 rondos (6 players in each box); players must play 2 touch (no 1-touch passing) in order to encourage the control aspect

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

Could make the spaces bigger by removing neutral area and more space for players to get wide and increase distance between defender, allowing more time for first touch

Regressions- allow multiple touches if struggling to get ball under control

Progressions- can remove the neutral area altogether and transition to one group session; place two players from either team on outside of the area and create more space for ensuring 2 touch, plus linking up with outside player who in turn has to find a different inside player to connect with and (again), must do it in 2 touches max

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

2 touch; add points for team maintaining possession for 10 seconds and ball not leaving area;

SSG (30 mins)

Activity setup: use full area; no restrictions; directional play 6v6 with no keepers; two nets to attack for each team;

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

Progression- move nets around outside of the field to create more; take one player from each team and place on perimeter sidelines as ''neutrals''; must link up with them at least once before scoring into any net

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

players get a point for controlling any ball played to their feet that was sent out of the air;
