Organization: Space is 34x44. Play with 8 to 12 on each team + GKs.
There are 3 stations at each endline = starting position for players
Balls located at opposite corner of the grid and play always begins there.
Intervals / games of 5-7 minutes as appropriate - depending on #'s
Play at least 2X, change the location of the balls to the opposite side in second round.
Instructions: Yellow starts with the ball and runs on the field with a ball, at the same time red steps out to defend and prevent a shot. This initiates the 3v3 duel.
If yellow shoots and scores or shoots and the ball goes off the endline, they stay for the next duel and a new red team of 3 runs on with a ball to attack. Thus, a new 3v3 duel with the same yellow.
If red takes the ball from white and shoots and scores or misses, a new yellow 3 run on with the ball. Basically, anytime the ball crosses the opposing endline, the defending 3 are off and a new 3 from that same team run on with a ball. If the ball crosses the sideline, there are 2 options for rules. Either, the appropriate team takes a throw-in, or, the team that played the ball out is off, with a new 3 coming on.
Coaching Points:
1) Demand for players to think and react to the situaiton
2) Step up, communicate and close down space.
3) Attacking team should be creative and score
4) Demand for all players to defend and support to prevent shots and goals
5) Physical intensity and high competitiveness must be balanced to eliminate injuries.
R1: No slide tackles rule, all players must stay on feet.

Organization:
50L x 40W
Two Teams
4x 5mins - 1min Rest
Instructions:
GK start the activity w/ball in hand, combining with incoming Midfielder via bounce pass
Attacking team then attacks 3v2 - two players from outside join
If the two CB's win the ball then set up counter attack the other way 4v3 - players from the outside join in. CB's should be the same players each time.
Offside is in play.
Teams alternate start each time.
Coaching Points/Questions:
1) 1st Attacker - Drive to goal to attract defender
2) Intelligent runs to get open and create 2v1 - timing
3) Leading passes to eliminate defenders
4) Catch and shoot in stride or shape body to take first time
5) CB's win the ball and look forward
6) Counter press if ball turns over to dent counter attacks
Regressions/Progressions:
P1: Start with #9 between CB's - add third defender to create 4v3 to 5v4

Organization:
60 x 54 with retention lines 21 yards from each goal - sizes can be adapted based on numbers or age group.
9v9 set up - Team 1 (3-4-2) Team 2 (3-3-3)
Games are 7 or 8 mins long and should be high intensity - 2mins rest/discussion
Normal re-start rules apply - throw ins, corners, goal kicks etc.
Instructions:
- When the goalkeeper has possession the attacking team must retreat outside the retention line.
- The team building out must receive the first pass under the retention line.
- The defending group must press the first pass.
Coaching Points:
1) Forward Defending - getting connected before closing
2) Pressing in a front two - good angle and speed to force play into agreed areas - 1st forward close CB - 2nd forward cuts of the goalkeeper
3) Fore checking - CM's and FB's must be ready to step in and intercept passes
4) Weakside wing midfielder comes inside to defend CM
5) Throw ins - team shifts over to cut the field in half and create numerical advantage on that side of the field - fore checking again should be coached to ensure players are aggressively looking to intercept the ball

Introduction (10 mins)
Organization: 2 teams of 3 + 3 neutrals. Creates a 6v3. Grid is 24 x 15. 60-120 second sessions.
Play is initiated from coach (or ideally another player) passing in from touchline.
Rotate neutrals per interval.
Instructions: As shown above, Green are neutrals. Red attempts to put 5 consecutive passes together with 3 yellow defending. If yellow wins the ball, they quickly play with green to put 3 passes together. At the same time, red quickly reacts to win ball back. Be mindful of work : rest ratio, but keep intensity high.
Coaching Points:
1) Close the ball down when they lose it
2) Move / react quickly to create space when they win it back.
3) Transisition time for turnovers should be immediate. (i.e. Run, close, sprint, play)
Progressions:
P1: Touch restriction - play with a 2 or 3 touch restriction
P2: Add goals - 8 yards of the endline for shots after the pass sequence & / or for defenders.
