SET UP:
1 OR 2 52 (20 + 12 + 20) x 30 areas (dependent on numbers); Field is divided up into three separate zones
Balls at either end of each area
4 goals per area
2 X 7 in one colour pinnie and one team of neutrals one at each end and one in the middle
ACTIVITY:
Directional rondo
Play begins with the end neutral playing to the attacking team from their own zone
The end neutral can only play with the attacking team in their own zone
The attacking team looks to play through the zone using the neutral that is encouraged to stay central in their zone (but it is not strictly enforced) to go to goal at the other end.
The defending team looks to win the ball and go directly to goal
2 defenders should always defend in the central zone as it should always be a numerical advantage for the attacking team
The remaining defenders should be looking to high press in a 5+1 v 5
The Offside line is the line closest to the opponent's goal on the opposite side of the goal
If the ball is won in each of the thirds:
1 point is awarded if it is scored from the defensive third
2 points from the middle third
3 points from the attacking third
For example:
A counterpress by the yellow team on orange where the ball is won in the ir attacking third results in 3 points when the team attacking from their defensive field is dispossessed
A play that starts in the defensive third and progresses to a goal at the other end is awarded 1 point
Game is played in 3 x 5 minute intervals with 1 minute rest in between
COACHING POINTS:
Emphasis on players making attacking runs into the opposition's defensive area
Vertical passes behind the defense to create 2nd line and third man runs
When the defending team wins the ball, can the secure possession to create a goal scoring opportunity, or do the need to reset through the zones to attack
In Possession:
1) Build up play through the thirds
2) Breaking lines of pressure
3) Quick combinations and patters of play
4) Attacking Runs and 3rd man option
5) Vertical play
Out of Possession:
1) High Pressing and forward defending
2) Countrerpressing
3) Rest defense
4) Transition play forward
