DO: 4-4-2: Across 3 channels

Intense-aggressive pressure on the opponent

Deny entry into the final quarter

Defend what is in front of you

Key themes

Set tight and stay tight.

We want nothing to get through our lines.

When we travel across, we stay tight. When we step up, we stay tight

Front to back, side to side, stay tight all the time

When the ball gets across, we press with intensity.

The 9 should get across, midfielders get across and get tight.

Far players (weakside players) need to stay tight.

Get across three channels.

DO: 4-4-2 Squeeze the line

Opponent is under pressure, so they play a negative pass.

If forward presses, then all players need to press.

The back line must stay connected as well.

As forwards and mids press, defenders must squeeze the line.

We are forward defending.

Defenders must sprint up and squeeze the line as the 9 is pressing the ball.

Put players offside. Keep lines tight.

DO: 4-4-2 Back Press

We put pressure on their CB and they play direct to a forward.

They are attacking and our back line is under stress.

All players must stay tight and compact.

All players need to back press immediately.

Forwards need to back press to be in a good transitional spot.
