Equipment Needed: x1 Footballs, cones or objects to make a number of gates to dribble through

Objective: movement with the ball taking small touches, changing directions. This practice will build the players confidence with the ball at their feet. Work for 30-45 seconds to record a score. Once you have set your score repeat and try to beat your score. Play against people at home and your team mates.

Coaching Points:

  •  Small touches, keep the ball close to your feet
  •  Head up looking at where you are going
  •  Use both feet different parts of your feet to keep the ball under control (break it down practice one foot then the other then both feet)
  •  If the ball runs away get it back under control 

Variation / Progression: Have the person at home call out colours and you have to dribble through those colours only. If you dribble through the wrong colour point deducted

Random Dribble


Objective: helps player make quick turns and dribble speed to get away from defenders. This improves player's concentration and ball skills with the ball at their feet


Equipment Needed: x1 football, a number of objects to place on the ground

  • Set up cones / objects on the ground in no specific order
  • On go move around the cones going in different directions, lots of quick turns and changes of direction, and plenty of touches on the ball
  • Work for 30 - 45 seconds, rest and repeat 5 times

Coaching Points:

  • Use both feet
  • Head up
  • Work hard (don't walk)
  • Head up to see where you are going
  • Small touches keeping the ball close to you and under control
  • Use different surfaces of your feet, allows for quick changes in direction
