This following few sessions will focus on the Transitional moments of the game, with Defense and Attacking Transitions both present.
Main focusses during Defensive Transitions:
- Immediate Recovery, Immediate Pressure to the Ball, or Delay through Pressure and Jockeying
Main focusses during Attacking Transitions:
- This can be summarized into always being Intentional with our Actions, and executing them with Intensity.
- Keeping Ahead of Opponents when Breaking, Immediate Width Concept, Retain Possession and Switch Play when under Pressure

Focus - To Transition Quickly and Capitalizing on Numbers up to Create a Goalscoring Opportunity
Often Attacking Transitional Moments will allow teams to have numbers up on a breakaway, it is key to be Intentional and Clinical with our actions and decisions to create Goalscoring Opportunities.
Activity - During the Activity a Defender (Red) will play strong pass into any one of the 3 Attackers (Blue), as soon as the ball is passed the game is live.
When the game is live, the passer is allowed to join the activity as a 3rd Defender (Immediate Recovery) and looks to apply backwards pressure, while the other 2 defenders are allowed to cross the line and defend the goal (Immediate Pressure to the Ball or Delay through Pressure and Jockeying).
Attackers should look to take advantage of the 'Breakaway' 3vs2 to create a Goal Scoring Opportunity before the 3rd defender gets back Goal Side and makes it a 3vs3. Main Principles will be to Stretch the Play through playing with Width and Runs in Behind, but the focus should be to make quick decisions on actions and then execute it with INTENSITY AND INTENTIONALITY.
Alternative Setup - Use a Big Goal and GK behind the defenders to bring more game realism.

Activity - One team (Blue) will Dribble in and get a 1vs1 against the Goalkeeper, as soon as the shot is taken, the Defending team (Red) is allowed to go on Attack with a new ball and 2 players coming in, making it a 2vs1 in the outfield, as soon as they take their shot, 2 players coming in (for Blue) to make it a 3vs2 in the outfield, after their shot the opposition gets another 2 players (Red) joining and making it a 4vs3. After this last transition, players will reset, and activity will reset to one player starting it off again, with a 1vs1 against GK.
After a while let teams switch sides, so that both teams gets the opportunity to start in the 1vs1's and are attacking towards the big goal.
Scoring - every converted Goal adds to the scoring. Keep score over the whole activity.
Progression/Alternative Setup - Rather than end-line players starting with the Ball, GK's start off attacks. Either with a ball from their net if there was scored, or from the ball in their hands if they were able to save and hold it. They also get to join the Attack as an extra player if they want.

Transition Scrimmage
Exact Setup is up to coaches, it can be Super 8's both sides if available, it can be Small Nets both sides without GKs, or it can be a combo like above.
If you Score, opposition gets to play immediately with a Ball from their end, while you have to go tag the net you scored on before you can continue to play. If you missed your shot, you have to go get the ball and bring it back, before you can continue to play. This causes transitional moments with numbers up advantages that we should look to exploit.
We want to get teams away from playing 'Rushed,' and get them playing with Intensity, Intent, and Quality.

Reaction Games
Success in transitions is highly related to how quickly players react during those moments of the game, and then how clinical they are in those moments just after with their decisions and actions.
I would like coaches to have some fun with their teams for about 15-20min with Reactional Games. These are Difficult to demo, so I provided some YouTube Links with examples of what kind of activities can be done. Do consider the equipment available to you when selecting your activities.
