Organisation
Area Size
Players now use area of 36 x 24 yards.
Activity to take place in opposite corners containing 2 squares, 12x12 yards in dimensions.
The players should organise themselves into two teams (attackers/defenders) and rotate between blocks.
Spare footballs should be located around groups.
Player No's
Six players per team is shown.
If working with more than 16 players then another square is required.
Timings
5 x 2 min blocks and 60 seconds rest between.
Explanation
- The defenders (red) will start with the footballs, the other team are the attackers (Blue). Rotate every two minutes.
- The defenders will pass the ball diagonally to the attackers.
- The attackers will then look to dribble though either gates, set up in the square.
- Once the defenders have passed the ball, they simply look to regain the ball.
- Players are required to dribble beyond the defender and through the gate.
Progressions (Harder)
- Ball remains live! If defender wins the ball back then it is now their challenge to dribble the ball through one of the corner gates and the attacker becomes the defender.
- Competition, 90-seconds each, who can score the most points: one point if you dribble the ball through the gate, two points if you tackle the player and then dribble the ball through one of the Gates.
Regressions (Easier)
- If the attacker can't achieve success, players can dribble across the full line (not just through the gate) to achieve success (larger)

Focus Area
Moving the ball forward.
Organisation Area Size
Players now use the full white coned area 36x24 yards (divided into 18x24 yard pitches, with coned goals on edges).
Timings
5 x 4 min blocks and 120s rest between.
Explanation
- 3v3 Small sided game, the aim of the session is to dribble over the oppositions end zone (white line). They score three goals if they dribble through the gate and one goal for out wide.
- No throw-ins are included, just pass in from the size.
- Defending team have to drop past the retreat lines in order to ensure safe build-up of play.
- Defenders must retreat below the pressing line and press after the first pass.
- Score by dribbling only over the end zone.
Progressions (Harder)
- Players can only score through the central gate.
- Match the players up in pairs on opposing teams and they can only tackle each other.
- You earn an extra point for each player you beat, if you then score the number of players you beat plus your goal is what you score (beat two players plus score = three goals).
Regressions (Easier)
- Make one player from each team passive and can only intercept cannot tackle.

Technical Practice (15 mins)
Focus Area
Moving the ball forwards (dribbling).
Organisation
Area Size
A Large, white coned area 12 x 24 yards.
Spare Footballs located around groups.
Player No's
12 players are utilised for this area size, if you have more then increase the area size accordingly.
Timings
5 x 2 min blocks and 60 seconds rest between (for technical and skill practice(s).
Explanation
- The players should move their balls (one each) around the12x14 yard area.
- Players then dribble around the box only using a specific surface of the foot which the coach has instructed, this can be with their right foot or left foot (inside, outside or sole).
- Players are required to stay within the central zone.
Progressions (Harder)
- Players to swap footballs and then look to get back on another ball quickly and continue their actions.
- Include central gates down within the square(s) and challenge players to move their balls through.
- Add competition (most gates in 1-minute).
Regressions (Easier)
- Use one ball between two (less chaos centrally), players without ball can then follow their partner.
