Organization: 15 x 15 grid,
6 per grid
everyone with a ball
Instructions:
1. The first player in line jogs to the cone in the middle of the grid, once they get to the cone, they turn to face the next player in line.
2. The next player in line passes the ball on the ground to the player in the middle
3. The player in the middle will use thier inside foot to open up and turn with the ball into the space behind them.
4. Once they turn, they need to burst into the space behind them and dribble outside of the grid back to the line
* To keep the session moving, make sure that once the player turns into space, the next player in line needs to go*
A. Use both the left and right inside foot
B.Use the outside left and right foot
D. Using the dummy trick
Coaching Points:
1. Correct technique using the inside & outside foot to turn
2. Is the ball being passed in a timely fashion so that the person receiving the ballis not standing and waiting
3. picking the head up
4. when they turn, is the ball gettin to far away from them?
5. is the player demanding the ball (communication)
6. Is the passer passing the ball to the front foot of the receiving player
Progressions:
1. Speed up the activity
Regressions:
1. slow it down, light dribble when they turn, to focus on keeping the ball close
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
Same set up & activity as before
add 2 small goals
Instructions:
1. Now when the players turn they are trying to make a firm pass on the ground into one of the small goals
Coaching Points:
1. Picking thier head up after the turn to find thier target ( goal)
2. Ball staying close with them
3.proper technique of playing a firm pass on the ground into the goals
4. Now players are taking a touch across their body instead of attemting to turn quickly
5: Can players fake to go one way then take touch across their body and play pass
Progressions:
1. instead of passing it into the goals now the are trying to shoot it in the goals
2. Depending on where they turn, make the closest goal worth 1 point and the farthest goal from them 5 points ( encourages them to make a harder pass or shot at a harder angle)
3. Moves the goals a little farther away maybe 5 more yards
4. Add a defender
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
Same set up as before, 15 x 15
6 players ( if you have 1 or 2 more extra players, just have them rest and rotate in)
1 ball
Instructions:
2 Teams
1. Each team has a player on the outside lines of the grid, and one in the middle
2. Ball starts with a player on the outside line.
3.Middle player is trying to receive the ball from the teammate on the outside, turn with the ball and player the opposite teammate for 1 point.
4. The defender in the middle is trying to win the ball, if they do, then they start passing to win points.
Players work hard for 1-2 minutes, then rotate players
Players on the outside cannot come into the grid BUT are expected to move along thier lines, not standing still
If ball goes out of bounds, the team that it did not go out on starts with the ball
*The ball has to go from Outside to Inside to Outside player for a team to get a point *
Coaching Points:
1. Are players using the proper turn with the defender on thier back
2. Are they creating space for themselves
3. Picking thier head up
4. If they cannot turn, are they playing it back to the teammate where the pass came from
5. Can outside players realize that the middle player cannot recieve the ball, and play to each other
6. Is the passer passing the ball to the front foot of the receiving player, away from the defender (setting up the player to turn into an open space)
7 Can players movement reflect where the ball is
Progressions:
1. 3 touch limit
2. Players on the outside can only hold the ball for 3-5 seconds and must find a pass or it is a turn over
3. The player in the middle can only get the ball if they call for it
Regressions:
1. Defender is lightly defending ( not trying to win the ball) then the next round, they switch roles, creating more success for both teams
