- Remember to explode forward after skill. GET PAST THE DEF!

Quick Ball Carrying- Race (10 mins)

  • Split group into two teams. Every player has a ball.
  • Players line up in a row, facing opposite directions.
  • On the coaches signal, all the players carry the ball until they cross a line 12m in front of them.
  • The team that gets all of their players and the ball over their line and UNDER CONTROL (stopped on the line) is the winner.
VARIATION
  • Make one team the dribblers and the other team the catchers, who try to prevent the dribblers from reaching their line.
  • Pair players up across the two teams so each catcher knows who they are chasing.
  • Start with catchers not having sticks. They catch a dribbler by tapping them on the shoulder - no pushing or hitting another player!
  • When you add sticks back in, you can play 'Rats & Rabbits':
  • Every player has a stick and ball. One team is the 'Rats' and the other team is the 'Rabbits'.
  • If you call 'Rats' they are the dribblers, and the Rabbits are the catchers.
  • If you call 'Rabbits' they are the dribblers, and the Rats are the catchers.
  • Avoid tackling, still just a tap on the shoulder - we are only focusing on quick ball carrying, which will happen when a player with the ball is being chased. We are not looking to take each other out!

SET UP

  • In pairs with one ball.
  • The cone acts as a defender.
  • The receiver should indicate to their partner when and where they want the ball.

  • 10 passes and switch over.
COACHING POINTS

Passing

- Side on, Left shoulder pointing to target

- Stick on the ground a little behind the ball

- Push the ball forward and point stick to target

  • Receive the ball on the move, in front of the defender (cone).
  • First touch should carry the ball forward / left / right, away from the defender.
  • Low body position with a flat stick to have better control of the ball when receiving.
  • Look! Both the feeder and receiver need to look before they pass and receive.

Number counter- over/ under load game

Teams line up at side like the numbers game.

Coach will call out 2 numbers. The first is for the orange team and the second the blue. The number is how many players are involved. For example- 2 and 1. Means 2 orange attackers against 1 blue defender.

When the game is done players join back of the line.

Focus is on playing with an over/ under load.
