Ball Mastery & Warm Up:


1. 

Session Objective: Ball Mastery 

Area & Size:

15 x 15 square 

Explanation & Method: 

Dribbling with the ball, headup and concentrating on ball being at their feet at all time's. 

Skills as per coaches delivery. 

- Drag across to left and rightfeet

- Drag across & stop, usingboth feet drag the ball across and stop. Then continue

- Toe taps with the top of theboot. Drag back

- V Drag – opening the hips LH RHfeet

- Cruyff turn, over exaggerate the first strike

2. 

Session Objective: Ball Mastery Drill in pairs. 

Area & Size: 

15m x 15m set up in the middle of the square on each end as per diagram.

Explanation & scoring method:

In pairs, one ball one pair. 

Playing the ball through the other player legs, facing away from the other player so you cant see when the ball is played through. 

Reacting to the pass and doing a turn (what the coach gives you as a direction) and coming back to the other player waiting for your pass through their legs to do the same thing, and so on. 

Working on passing, accuracy, turning on the ball (ball mastery skills) etc. 

Timing: 

10mins 

3. 

Session Objective: Ball Mastery / 1v1 Outplaying Practice

Area & Size: 

2 cones for each pair approx. 10m apart as per the diagram. 

Explanation & scoring method: 

Both players facing each other with the one ball. One player tries to stop the ball on the cone to score a point, if the defending player puts their foot on the cone first, its no goal. 

Then quickly try and head to the other side and score, defending player keeps trying to stop them from scoring on the cones. 

Timing: 

60 seconds per player / try to see if they can do this drill for 10mins all up. 

4. Positional Rondo: 

Session Objective:

  • To force the defenders to run more distance
  • To force the defenders to slow down
  • To move the ball away from the pressure
PROGRESSION OF GAME CONCEPTSIf too easy make it 4+ passes before moving onto the other square. If too hard, drop the 3 passes and make it open. 
1st & 2nd person concepts - Defensive
1st & 2nd person coordination - Defensive

Area & Size: x2 15m x 15m squares 

Explanation & Scoring Method: The red team have to keep the ball in order to beat blue player pressing and after 3 passes to pass the ball across the other square to the red team. Blue players must press in order to recover the ball. Once the pass into the other square after 3 passes that is a goal.

Timing: 20mins / changing slightly if needed. 

5.
Tactical Game Play 

Session Objective: Game focused around the session. Ball mastery, dribbling, scanning. 

Area & Size: Using the full three squares = 30m x 30m 

Explanation & Scoring Method:

Awareness of opponent, team mates & space. 

Body position & First touch

Goals scored at each end

Change drill if needed as you go 

Timing: 

30mins 

Warm down & stretches 10mins
