Shot Stopping Central Areas.

Sep up 2 goals facing each other rough 18-24 yrds apart.

6 yard shooting zone in front of each goal.

Coaching points:

Ensure GK is inline with striker and set when ball is struck.

Catch with "W" technique when ball is struck to face , but ensure thumbs are apart. (Striker should see GKs pinkie fingers when catch is made)

(For passing)

Move outside line of goal to receive ball back (Support below )

Ensure body shape is open and can see whole pitch when receiving pass from wide player.

Screen 2

Shot Stopping Central Areas.

Sep up 2 goals facing each other rough 18-24 yrds apart.

6 yard shooting zone in front of each goal.

Hidden learning:

This session can be used as a good warm up or matchday -1 session to get the gks going through motions , catching the ball and passing in and around the box. Service can be manipulated to ensure GK success and confidence building before match.

The two players on the sides would represent CBs , for the GK with the ball at their feet. The GK should pass and support below , received and switch play to other CB who can drop the ball short in the central area for GK to strike in at opposing GKs face.

When GK catches, he/she then rolls out to CB and repeats action going in opposite direction.

(See animation on next screen)

This allows GKs to get practice switching play between CBs and striking the ball as well as working on their handling.

Progression:

Move CBs out wide , longer passing and more movement with ball.

Still focus on the switch of play as well.

Could change sequence and allow opposite CB to cross ball in once ball has been switched , just to add some crosses in , if using as matchday prep.
