C - mirror game (15 mins)

Organization

balls, bibs, pylons

set-up as shown in diagram, make 2 grids of 3x3 about 8-10yds apart with a gate in front about 6-8yds forward as shown

Start position: players facing one another separated by an imaginary line that player without ball cannot cross.

Implementation

Player with ball attempts to dribble ball to marked zones A or B, before partner without ball can get there. Player must move ball and link this with body shape and movement, quick changes of direction and pace are required to get away from partner.

Have players keep score! 1 point = every time they stop the ball into the grid before defender arrives.

Rotate roles after 1-2 minutes of play. Can play a King's Court type idea - where player with most points gets to play against another high-scoring player.

*start with out ball*

Coaching Points

Deceive with feints, changes of direction and pace (player has advantage with planning ahead)

Emphasis on foot speed and clean contacts on the ball to change direction

Use foot furthest away from defender

Progressions

Can challenge player to beat defender and then go for goal ("C") - pass or dribble through orange gate
