Set up:
30x20 field
4 gates (2x2)
8 balls
3 sets of pinnies
Instructions:
- Defending player (1) passes the ball diagonally across to the first attacking player in line.
- Two attackers attempt to score by dribbling through the two gates in front of them.
- If the defender wins the ball, they can then attempt to get through the two gates in front of their team.
- Play continues until the ball goes out or players dribble through the gates for a point.
**Progression:
- Add a second defender that comes in to defend from (2) after the attacking players cross the cones at half
Coaching Points:
Attack
- Change of direction, change of pace
- First touch towards the opponent (Open foot to 90 degrees)
- Use the gates to unbalance defenders (Attack one to open up the other)
- Create a 2 vs 1 with overlap and underlap
Defend
- Defenders close down (big steps, small steps, jockey)
- Defenders make the attack predictable
- We must defend well in training to improve our 1v1 attack. Once we improve the attack, we must improve the defending
