Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Mini Kick Week 3: Giants

Ball Mystery (10 mins)

Organization:

1 - 30x25 area

2 - 1 ball per player 

Instructions:

1 - Players dribble around the sqaure keeping close control

2 - Coach calls out a number of actions for players to apply

3 - 1 - toe taps, 2 - happy feet 3 - special skill (pull back) 4 - catch the coach 5- scissors 6- shoulder feint..

4 - Players also pick a silly word. If the coach calls out that word players must sit on the soccer ball

5 - Player that is last to sit on the ball gets (fluffy stars, austrailian push ups, donkey kicks)

Coaching Points:

1 - Close control taking small touches.

2 - Head up to observe the space

3 - Dribble using different surfaces of the cleat

Progressions:

Avoid the giants (10 mins)

Organization:

1 - 30x25 area

2 - 1 ball per player

3 - Coach/ volunteers (giant)

Instructions:

1 Players must avoid the giants and get through the castle grounds

2 - Players that are caught/tagged by the giant must go to the back and dribble through cones before they re-enter.

3 - Giant must kick the soccer ball out the sqaure to capture the players.

Coaching Points:

Play with head up.

Use shoulder feint to create space.

Keep ball close (Messi).

Attack the open space with big touches (Ronaldo).

Turn away from pressure (Giants)

Progressions:

Add more Giants/Reduce width of field
