Description
Counter attacking exercise for midfield players.
Detail
Blues keep possession in their shape - outside players look to play through the middle. 5 passes - goal.
Red midfielders look to win the ball back before CA to goal.
Reds have time limit and pass limit to score. Blues cannot recover to defend.
Progressions
1. Outside (4) blue can act as cb/dcm and recover to defend.
2. Place 1 x cf and 1 x cb in end zone area and ask CA reds to play into cf to initiate CA.
3. Wide outside blues (7&11) can also defend.
4. Coach throws ball in from anywhere to initiate CA.
5. Add end zone and goal on opposite end of pitch for blues to work towards - again must get 5 passes before they can score. This increases realism for reds by defending a target. Remove the outside blue (9).
6. Can even teams up and play to 2 goals - 1v1 in end zones and possession inside area.
CPs and Challenges
Compact v pressing to win it back - set traps.
Fast transition/change of mentality.
No long passing sequences - can you CA in 4 passes or less / 6 seconds?
Do you, hit the cf, rwtb, hit space?
If you can't play forward 1st, can a team mate? Secure that 1st pass.
Create and exploit overloads - how, where?
Movement of CF - when, how, where?
Change of tempo.
Be positive, creative, and clinical.
