Passing Pattern to goal
Organization: Crossing and finishing Exercise to build repetition and encourage success of finishing. 3 Mannequins are placed in the 18 yard box and non mobile defenders. Ball starts with the central player who plays a ball into the wide player. Receiving player then plays a wall pass with the player as shown and crosses the ball into the box avoiding the mannequins and trying to find the run of the initial player who needs practice in front of goal. Idea is lots of repetitions and mixing up the movements based on the delivery to arrive with the ball. Rotate to the opposite side after each cross for high repetitions. 4X3 Minutes of blocks
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Challenge for the playing arriving into the box would be a goal scored with 1 touch is worth double. This will encourage him to time his run and adjust his body shape to facilitate a 1 touch finish replicating the lack of time he will have in the box. More than 1 touch finish would only count as 1 point.
Progression - As the players grow in confidence we can remove the mannequins and add in some live defenders. This will force the players attacking the box to put more emphasis on the timing and angle of his run and efficiency in finishing within the 18 yard box. Defenders must clear the box to reset the exercise in this moment.
Progression 2 - The play does not need to go wide. Players have freedom to combine centrally to create goal scoring opportunities.
Challenegs/Goal Setting for the forward - score 6 goals in each block of time
Key Points:
- Timing and angle of run into the box
- Quality of finish
- Body shape to facilitate a one touch finish if possible
- Follow in for rebounds
- Pass the ball into the net - composure within the box
