Individual defending Technique Practice:
Organisation:
2 players with cones 10y apart are facing each other with 1 ball.
Practice:
The player with the ball passes the ball to his opponent becoming the defender and the attacker with the ball now tries to hit the cone where the ball was served from. The passing player defends his cone. The defender during this practice is passive not touching the ball but using his body positioning and body shape to defend. We work on positioning and reading the attacker so we can defend.
Key Factors:
•Defender should bend his run to block direct path to the goal(cone)
•Defender shall force the attacker in the direction they want them to go
•Defender should adapt a defensive stance, on their toes, knees bent, one foot forward and one foot back
•Technique of block, angle of approach, slowdown be patient, don’t get too tight, one arm length distance from the attacker
Progression:
•Start by placing the player at each cone to allow more space for the attacker
•Change starting positions so the defender has a different challenge and has questions to answer when defending
•Time the attack and challenge for quick runs
