Warm Up

Set Up: 4 tall traffic cones, or any cones, in a 5x5yrd grid-adjust the size as needed to fit the age and skill level of the player(s). Only 1 ball is needed (per grid). One 5 minute duration and two 2 minute durations.

Objective: 5 minute duration-move the ball within the square. Focus on change of pace and change of direction. First 2 minute duration-toe touches. Second 2 minute duration bells (also known as foundation).

Coaching Points: Quick feet/touches. Get use to the pitch, ball, etc.

Square Dribbling

Set Up: 4 tall traffic cones, or any cones, in a 5x5yrd grid- adjust the size as needed to fit the age and skill level of the player(s). Only 1 ball per grid. 5 times per patter (number of patterns you can do is unlimited as long as your starting point and end point are constant).

Objective: Challenge the players physically/technically but also challenge them mentally (ie complexity of the pattern). ALWAYS GO SIMPLE TO COMPLEX.

Coaching Points: Ball control, change of direction, don't walk.

Expanded Dribbling 1

Set Up: 4 cones in each line (alternate colors to have groups already split into teams. 1 cone, of a different color, separates lines. 15 total minutes (5 minutes dribble with both feet, 5 minutes right foot only, 5 minutes left foot only).

Objectives: Ball control, quick change of direction, accurate passes.

Coaching Points: Sharp controlled touches, quick turns, bursts of speed, sharp controlled passes.

Expanded Dribbling 2

Set Up: The set up for this is the same as the set up for the "Expanded Dribbling 1"

Obejectives: Teams now switch sides (from the middle cone separating the lines) perform a move to either get pass the cone on the left or right side then continue onto the next line and pass the ball off, players must each rotate through 'X' number of times. Make it a competition between the teams (the number of teams is unlimited (but I recommend no more than 2-3 players in each line).

Coaching Points: Ball control, quick feet, change of direction, accurate passes.

2 Cone Fitness

Set Up: 2 cones, set up 7-10yrds apart (depending on the age and skill level of the player(s). 1 ball per set of cones. No time limit-great fitness activity for individuals or teams.

Objective: 1 minute intervals back and forth between cones with a 20 second break between sets.

Coaching Points: Don't stop moving, ball control, change of direction, change of pace.
