Getting the Team to build up plays from goal kicks and puntts whenever possible
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
If you are playing a 2-3-2 formation
The organization and strategy stays the same start the play on the wings and work your way up field or towards the middle
Instructions:
- Encourage the goalkeeper to play goal kicks to left and right defense
- Then have them boot the ball up field if under pressure (Ideally you want them receiving the ball going away from goal towards the touch line. Then passing to the wing midfield who will then try to find striker as shown in this diagram)
- as the ball is played up field teammates advance in support
NB - If defensive options are blocked by opponents Goalkeeper should look to pass to OPEN midfield player
- If Midfield Options are blocked as well Goalkeeper should attempt to play ball into open space in WIDE position for teammates to run unto
- GOALKEEPER SHOULD NEVER PASS THE BALL DOWN THE MIDDLE FROM GOAL KICKS!!
Coaching Points:
NEVER have the goal kicks play down the middle of the field that will only hurt your team.
The ball will only come right back at your goalkeeper as you may have seen already.
- players should get a good first touch on the ball REDIRECTING the pass to their next anticipated target.

Organization:
- Goalkeeper Catches the Ball
- Runs to tob of Box
- Then Punts the Ball Upfield
Instructions:
- Goalkeeper should hold the ball with both hands directly infront of body (as shown in slide)
- Goalkeepers Non Kicking Foot and body posture should be directed towards his/her target (teammate)
- USING THE LACES Goalkeeper makes contact with ball
- BE SURE to follow through after contact for added power
- ball travels up field to target
Coaching Points:
Always Run the ball to the top of the penalty box(18yard area) for best results on kicks
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
Goalkeeper makes a save and now has to punt the ball forward
Formation: 3-3-1
Instructions:
- After making catch/save goalkeeper must run the ball to the top of the 18yard box as shown in slide
- wait for players to advance in front of him/her as shown in the diagram
- then punt ball forward to either strike/forward or right/left midfield players
Coaching Points:
- Punting the ball to these players will help the team get as far foorward as possible, so it will be less effort to go towards opponents goal
- Its important that goalkeeper waits until all his players have advanced infront of him/her because in the event of a miss kick players can be in a position to defend goal and NOT play opponents onside.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
1. for olders teams goals don't always need to punt ball. Ball can be rolled by hand to defensive players who can then distribute to wingers to keep ball position
2. For younger teams U9 and 10s ball should be punted as shown in this diagram just to get the team forward as quickly as possible (provided defenders are not so confident on the ball)

- have the rest of the team push on higher in the positions as shown
Instructions:

- Then have them boot the ball up field if under pressure (Ideally you want them receiving the ball going away from goal towards the touch line. Then passing to the wing midfield who will then try to find striker as shown in this diagram)
