What I want to do it try and keep as many bodies away from the ball as possible, THE ONLY time you are coming towards the ball is to bounce it.
The more bodies we have near the ball, means more opposition players near the ball - inviting a team to press.
We dont want our players on the outside of the pitch, WBs and CMs being trapped - so that is why when needed we want the WBs to roll inside.
We need everyone apart from the forward players in the first phase of the build to be ready to receive the ball, Front line stay high and keep the pitch big.

Passing Options
Gk can pass to either CB, or miss them out if there is an option elsewhere.
If the ball has to go back to the GK
TRIGGERS:
- As the ball goes back into the GK, CBs spit CM stay away, GK should have options to pass to CBs and the CMs
OR
CB takes the goal kick passes to the GK and the CBs split the box, inviting the press
CMs stay away from the ball leaving room to rotate in or for the CB to carry the ball out and forcing their CMs to stay.
This set up causes issues for the opposition CM, they cant come tight to our CM as that will leave the back line 4 on 4 and also open up passing lanes.
The front 2 cannot go man for man and split the box as that will leave a pass into our CM feet open, if that is not on, we use the GK as an extra man

CB has carried the ball out
He can now;
- Pass across to the other CB
- Pass to either the CM or Wide player off the rotations
- Clip the channel over the FBs head
Movement Triggers;
- Wide players roll inside if passing lane is blocked, on this movement CM will drop in.

Ideally we find the wide player rolling in or the CM
Once one of the above players has the ball this opens up the whole pitch
If the CB passed to the wide player, coming in off the line he ideally bounces to the CM
Once the CM is in possession the 10 drops into the pocked and the CF will look to stretch the back line, and the other CF runs inside off the touchline
CM now has options to;
- Play 10s feet
- 2 CFs running behind
- WB
- Step in with the ball

IF we lose the ball we transition into a 442 - bodies back behind the ball ASAP

Initial set up from Goal Kick
Setting up in a 244 shape from a goal kick while playing a 3412.2 CBs inside the box
RCB , CM, CM, LWB on the same line slightly higher
CF, 10, CF, WB - set up this way so the 10 can support if the ball breaks down.
From this shape there are so many options;
- Play thought from the CBs
- GK plays into midfield
- GK can clip WBs who head down the line
- GK can clip the CF/10 who flicks on for the WB
