Screen 1

16 Players: Reds 3, 4, 2 v Blues 2, 3, 1 (plus GK)

Focus on player movement, shape, decision making, number of touches required:

Primary Player: (No 3: Full back) - Opposite applies if playing to No 2

1/. Ball played by coach in to Centre Back.

As Centre Back receives the ball, can the Full Backs drop wide and deep quickly to create a passing option.  Doing this quickly will increase space thus increasing the time they have to retain possession and find a team mate if they receive the ball from the Centre Back

Secondary Player(s):11, 8, 6, 4

Can 11 'push on' and wide.  If possible can 3 play into 11's feet and then look to get beyond to create an overlap

Can 6 and 8 show options, one coming close and the other pulling away into space

Can 4 drop slightly to provide option and outlet to the right full back

Can 9 be an option into feet with 10 (2nd striker) staying on shoulder of last defender

Tertiary Player(s): 5, 2, 7 and 10

Can these players make the pitch 'big'

10 (2nd striker) on shoulder of last defender if 3 goes direct

5 outlet if 3 plays 4 who can play 5 and out to the 2

7 maintaining width and option for the 2

Primary Player: 6 and 8 (Central Midfielders)

1/. Ball played by coach in to Centre Back.  As Centre Back receives the ball can the Central Midfielders look to create an option even if they are being marked tightly and under pressure. If they are able to attract and play under pressure, can they pop the ball off to a full back or winger in space and turn quickly to support.

Secondary Players: 3, 4, 7 and 11

As the Central Midfielders show to receive the ball can:

Wide Midfielders (7 and 11) move wide and the Fullbacks (2 and 3) drop wide and deep,

If the Wide Midfielders receive the ball can the Full backs get beyond the wide midfielders to support or create a 'dummy run'

If the Full Backs receive the ball, can they look to play forward quickly to the Wide Midfielders and then look to get beyond to support or provide 'dummy run'

Tertiary Player(s): 9 and 10 (2nd Striker)

Can these players stay alert and ready to move if Central Midfielder pops the ball either back or wide and the movement of other team players creates an opportunity for the ball to be played direct into a striker.  If this happens can the strikers combine to get a shot at goal

Primary Player: (No 9/10: Striker/2nd Striker)

1/. Ball played by coach in to Centre Back.

As Centre Back receives the ball, the full backs drop low and wide and the wide midfielders push on and wide.  The Strikers look to find a gap between the Central Midfielders for the ball to be played direct from the Central Defender into the Strikers feet.

Secondary Player(s):11, 8, 6, 7

If the ball gets played into the Strikers, can the Midfielders pivot and get forward quicky, support and receive a 'pop off' pass form the striker.

If a Wide Midfielder receives the ball can they deliver a cross into the box

If a supporting Central Midfielder receives the ball, can they shoot or slide the 2nd Striker in for a shot on goal

Tertiary Player(s): 3 and 2

If ball played to a Wide Midfielder can the Full Backs stay alert to provide support/overlaps in the final third

First Primary Player: (No 7 and 11)

1/. Ball played by coach in to Full Back.

As the Full Back receives the ball can the Wide Midfielder move high and wide to create space and a passing option. If the Wide Midfielder receives the ball, can they either:

- Turn and get a cross into the box

- Beat the opposition Full Back in a 1 v 1, reach the touch line and cut the ball back for a striker to attack and score

- Play the overlap pass if the Full Back is trying to support and get beyond

- Play inside to a Central Midfielder who could either try and shoot or slide in a striker

Secondary Player(s): Connecting Full Back, Striker and Central Midfielders (as detailed above)

Tertiary Players: Central Defenders, other Full Back and Wide Midfielder

Applying to All Screens:

Horizontal Units: (3, 4 and 2) (11, 8, 6 and 7) (9 and 10)

Interventions:Certain aspects may initially start unopposed i.e playing direct into the striker. I want the striker to understand their positioning and see success in what they are trying to do before opposition try to win ball back. May invoke strikers can have two touches before a tackle is possible?
