4 Defending rules
1) Close down - The player should get to the ball as fast as possible.
2) Break down - The player should start to take much smaller steps (shuffle) as they get near the ball. Now is the time to leave space
3) Get down - The player should bend the knees with chest over toes to get in a good athletic stance that will allow quick movements. Keep the feet moving.
4) Push Player- The player should push the ball/opponent to one side to make them predictable. Come at the ball at an angle.

Organization:
- Use the large square from warmup and add 2 much smaller squares to 2 sides to be used as endzones.
Instruction:
- 2 teams will play 1v1 and try to get to the opposite endzone.
- The team with the most players with balls in the endzones wins the match.
- Switch which team gets to start with the ball. Allow free play for a few moments then introduce (one at a time) the 4 steps to properly closing down an attacker.
GUIDING QUESTIONS:
- Where you would push a player to?
- Attackers weak foot
- Side line to use it as a second defender
- A supporting player to force a 2v1 advantage to the defenders
Coaching points:
- Freeze the activity only to show the 4 rules from above
- Correct the players as you see issues.
- EMPHASIZE leaving some space (Not being able to touch the attacker at first).
- Force the attacker to make the first move
(free flow to keep the activity fun)
