Passing Technique (10 mins)

Set Up:

3x3 squares and balls

Instructions:

- Groups of three (One player working in the box, one player feeding balls in, Last player behind the box providing numbers for a shoulder check)

All Progressions are done with players in the middle of the box.

- Work until all groups finish their soccer balls. Once first group is done all groups stop. Count how many balls went in the pugg net. Wining group stays. 

** Three groups of three working. Other groups waiting on the side. Winning team stays on.

A) Learn - Bounce inside the cones, bounce to the left, bounce inside with the right foot inside the cones, bounce to the right of the cone. Player takes a touch and passes in to pugg net.
B) Repeat - Bounce inside the cones, bounce to the left, bounce inside with the right foot inside the cones, bounce to the right of the cone. Player passes with one touch in to pugg net.
C) Apply - Bounce inside the cones, bounce to the left, bounce inside with the right foot inside the cones, bounce to the right of the cone. Open up behind furthest yellow cone, take a touch from the inside to the outside of the cone. Player then passes in to the pugg net.

** ** Server can roll the ball to the player if they do not feel comfortable consistently passing the ball.

Learn - Correct technique with no competition.

Repeat- Players in the box compete against each other.

Apply - Team relay competition. Once first player completes 4 bounces the next player comes in right away until all players finish

Coaching Points:

Learn | Play in bend | Planted foot to the target

Repeat| Open foot to 90 degrees Draw a line to the target

Apply | Shoulder check, receive with lead foot, body shape like a bench, (open up to bounce the ball diagonally past the back cones)

Possession - 4v4+3 (20 mins)

Set up:

25x20 4v4 + 3 Neutral

Three teams of 4-5 players

Instructions:

- One team defends and transitions to score on the goals (Green). One team focuses on possession, 5 passes = goal (Black). One team plays as neutral players and/or rests on the side line with coaching board

- Neutral players become defenders of the goals in transition (Red) ** * Use the team resting to play neutral positions.

-  Three minute games then rotate 

- Progress to playing the opposite target in order to score.

** Inside neutral defends with both teams.

Tactical Coaching Points

Attacking Vision - Play passes to pull defenders to one side of the field in order to beat them on the other side.

Learn | Create time and space by getting into a big structure (width and depth).

Repeat | Create overloads by using the rule of opposites fake left to go right, Go out to go inside, etc. (Mobility and Support)

Apply | Use bounce passes to set up forward passes and break lines (Penetration) 

Attacking Principles of play - Width & Depth, Mobility, Support, Penetration, Improvisation


Defending Vision- Defend within diamond shape in order to cut out forward passes and pressure passes

Learn | Take away time and space by getting into a compact shape and then pressuring the ball with a banana run (Balance, Pressure and Delay)

Repeat | Make the other team predictable by getting in between forward passes (Screen)

Apply | Pressure balls in your defensive zone, and track runners (Marking) 

Defending Principles of play - Pressure, Delay, Screen, Balance, Marking 

Technique Coaching Points:

Learn | Draw a line with your middle of your foot to where you want your touch to go

Repeat | Body like a bench ( allows for body to stay open and touch to go out of pressure)

Apply | Where the ball comes from, defenders come from. ( Play out of pressure, where is the space?)

Game (20 mins)

- Play a game using 2-3-1 shape

- Play 4v4 with reduced numbers (attacking team 2-1-1 |)
