1-4-2-3-1 defending scenarios (25 mins)
1-4-2-3-1 positioning. Walk through a couple of different scenarios, back 4 need to get beyond line when ball is cleared or advanced (creating space for attacking team to play direct into). Shaded area of the pitch is where we deny like demons. Get in front of the ball, keep feet moving, communicate, support and anticipate/win any 2nd or loose balls. Looking to force play wide.
Instruction points :
- fullbacks look to deny end line , forcing wide players into supporting CDM
- CAM & 2 CDM's look to screen forward central passes, man-marking midfield trio (within reason)
- no pressure on the ball, ball out of feet, DROP and get together
- far sided CB sets the line
- stay compact and travel together
- transition moments *SNAP* immediately put pressure on the ball and get behind the ball
