Description

Combination play going from right to mid, back to right. First pass is up the line, the person who makes the first pass makes an overlapping run. The midfield crosses to the wing where the first passer is waiting for the ball, to cross the ball into the box for a shot.

Mis-direction crossing with shot. (warm-up) (10 mins)

Triangle passing into space, cross into the box and volley.

The positons workig in this activtiy are: #2 ove lapping run, #7 passing to the #10, #8, #9 to open into the wings, to #2 who can now make the cross.

Line 1 passes to line 2, line 2 passes to line 3 which then lofts a pass to player #1 making a run on the outside. Then player 1 makes a cross into the box where player 3 has an opportunity to strike the ball any way he likes (volley prefered).

Now the activity has a new demension with a defender. Same concept of triangulation passing into space and crossing in. Now, the only difference is, there is a defender pressuring the passer on the outside trying to prevent the cross.

Coaching points. Defense. Apply pressure when ball is passed. Cut down the angle and force a bad pass or steal the ball.

Coaching points. Offense. Attack the ball. Attack the space and look up. Find an angle to get the ball to the box, for the player making the run and strike.

In progression #3 the activity has turned into a 2 v 2. Defense job is to disrubt the passes and clear the balls. Intercept the passing lanes. The play ends when the defense clears the ball or the offense takes a shot, or scores. Offense must find a way to score. The play goes live when the third pass is made to the wing.

Coaching points. Defense. Close the passing lanes quickly. Clear the ball. Must pressure the player on the wing.

Coaching points. Offense. Make good passes in the air to the wing, so they can make a quick decision, to attack or cross. Winger must make good pass into the box if alloted time to do so. Striker must be quick to take shot once in the box. First touch is crucial.

Open the activit to a 6 v 6 and work on the fundementals of the activity, making over lapping runs, working on spacing and triangulation. Continue to attack and put the ball in the box for shots.

Defensively, we want to contain the outside from making any good crosses and clear. Must also want to control the ball to a teammate.
