Session Objective

  • To defend in wide areas when there is a overload

Organisation

Function 9vs9

  • Red team are set out as a 1-3-5-2, however the 2 strikers have been taken out to create a 1-3-5-0
  • Green team are set out as a 1-4-4-2 however the goal keeper and left centre back has been taken out to create a 0-3-4-2.
The red team need to defend the wide areas to be successful in the session. Ideally the red team are looking to force the green team into the middle of the pitch where reds have a overload. If greens do create an overload down the wing the outside centre midfielder goes to support. If a ball does get into the box then there are 3 defenders to try and keep the attackers out. The ball the starts with Greens no.5 in between the 2 two goals. The starting point will change during the session. It will start with green no.2&3 and might start with the 9 or 10. The greens aim is to try and score from a wide area. However, it is also a normal game as the opportunity doesn't always arise to go wide.. If reds win the ball back can they play positive to try and score in the two mini nets which are acting as their 2 strikers in the 1-3-5-2 formation.
