Screen 1 (20 mins)

SET UP:

3/4 Pitch - Goal on 18 yard line

22 Players

RED (Coached) 3412

BLUE (Opposition) 442

BLOCKS:

2 min framing

1 x 10 min block - stepping in and stopping the watch when needed to give feedback.

SESSION EXPLAINED:

3/4 Pitch game, usual rules playing the game as it would be on a match day,

BLUE PROBLEMS:

  • CM moving across when FB has the ball / Furthest CM dropping to receivewhen CB has the ball and nearest CM moving high
  • CF looking to make runs and receive in behind/down the channel
  • FB advances higher and Winger rolls inside

RED SOLUTIONS:

1.

  • RED 10 presses FB and shows outside - not inside
  • RED CF half and half - distance between CM and CF
  • 10 outside shoulder and attacking side of CM
  • WB threatening to press winger - distance important - close enough to affect - but also threatening to screen too
  • Nearest CM across screening target goal but also within distance to press CM if ball is played to him direct or after a bounce -press and force backwards - CF or 10 can press from the front if in their area
  • Furthest WB inside pitch - screening target goal - able to push out if ball looks likely to be switched

2

  • CF can still press CB from inside to out to make pass into fullback predictable but must come down the line of the CM who hasdropped in
  • 10 can threaten outside shoulder of CM who drops in but not too narrow in case ball is switched
  • WB in position to screen but also ready to press if ball comes wide
Nearest screen picks up deep lyer who advances and marks goalside - if ball goes to FB then shuffles to be in position to screentarget goal but again be in a position to press deep lyer if ball gets played to them.

  • Fursthest WB inside screening target goal but again ready to push out if ball is looking to be switched

  • Ball side CB channel side - race position in anticipation for ball in behind but also ready to step in if ball to feet. Middle CB anticipatingball in behind so ready to drop and cover/sweep up. Furthest Centre Back anticipating ball in behind so tracking runners andcommunicating. Furthest Wingback tucking around. Screens dropping to pick up second balls. 10 and CF freeing themselves up intospace to be able to receive and counter attack.
.

  • We go WB to FB, Cutting off the pass down the line! - The only time we don't show outside!! - We pass the Winger onto ourBall side CM. Second CM across 10's drop onto deep lyer - outside shoulders.
  • Ball side CB markschannel side - middle one anticipating covering in behind - furthest one tucks inside second striker and wingback tucks inside pitch tocreate back 4 - distances important

COUNTER ATTACKING:

CF and 10' - when ball goes past them - don't mark a Blue - give yourselves space and distance so that if ball is won we can play to youor you can run off the back of blue players out of sight - but also in a position where you can press from behind if we don't win the ball
