Accuracy

Introduce cones to ensure passes are accurate.

Players can take a step back when they make a successful pass through the cones. Which pair can get the furthest away?

Adjust width of cones and distance of players from the cones to increase difficulty.

  • Each player has a ball in a defined area.
  • Large or light balls are much easier for U6/U7 to move.
Round 1
  • Move your ball within the playing area.
  • When you come across another player, swap balls with them.
  • Who can be the first person to swap balls with 3/5/7 players?
  • Who can be the first person to swap balls with everyone in the group?

Round 2

  • Take balls away from half of the group and give players without a ball a cone to stand next to.
  • If you have a ball - look for a player at a cone and pass to them. Then take their place at the cone.
  • If you don't have a ball - call for a pass from a player with a ball. Once you receive a ball, move with it to find a new player on another cone.
  • Who can make their way to all of the cones first?

Round 3

  • Create gates of different sizes.
  • Keep the same number of balls (half the group have a ball).
  • Players with a ball must look for a player without a ball to make a pass through a gate.
  • The player who receives the ball then moves with the ball to another gate to find a new teammate to pass to.
  • Every time you make a pass through a gate or you receive a ball through a gate, give yourself a point.
  • Who can get to 10 points first?
  • What do you need to think about when passing through a large gate or a small gate?

SET UP

  • In pairs, stand opposite your partner.
  • Each player starts behind their base line.
  • The player with the ball is aiming to pass the ball beyond the 2 metre line furthest from them.
  • Their partner's aim is to try and meet the ball to trap it before it gets across the 2 metre line just in front of them.
  • Swap partners every few minutes.

SET UP

Two teams of 3-4 players.

One ball (although it's handy to have spares to keep the game flowing).

Mark out a playing area of two squares.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • One team starts with the ball; their aim is to pass the ball between themselves in order to score points for consecutive passes (eg. 3-5).
  • One player from the opposite team enters the playing area and looks to get a touch on the ball.
  • If the ‘defending’ player manages to touch the ball, or if the team in possession let the ball out of the area, the game moves over to the other side of the pitch and re-starts.
  • If the team with the ball successfully win a point, the ball transfers to the other team for their turn.
IS IT WORKING?

No -

  • Reduce the number of passes the players have to make before they score a point to increase initial success and confidence.
  • Increase the size of the playing area.
Yes -
  • Decrease the playing area to make the game harder for teams when they are in ‘attack’. Reducing the space will reduce the amount of time players have to make decisions.
  • Make scoring a point more challenging by increasing the number of passes they have to make before they score a point.
TO THINK ABOUT

If you have lots of players set up multiple boxes and have lots of games going on at once to keep everyone active. Allow players to play for a few minutes and then rotate the teams around.

Keep track of the score to keep players motivated.
