Five Person Passing Pattern

Session Set-up

• Field: Four cones set up in a diamond, ~15 yards each side. 
• Players: 1 player start on each cone with a 2nd player at the starting cone with an extra ball.
• White player starts with the ball and passes to the left to 1. 
• 1 bumps it back to White who passes across to 2 and follows their pass into the middle of the diamond.
• 2 does a 1-2 pass around their cone with player 1. 
• 2 passes to 3 and follows their pass.
• 3 plays up to white, white bumps it back, and 3 plays across the diamond to 1. 
• White checks to 1 who gives a 1-2 around their cone and passes down to 4.
• Players follow their passes.

Coaching Points

• Treat each cone as a defender and check to the correct side of them to receive each pass. 
• Treat the outside players as wide wingers and the central players as center defenders/center midfield/strikers.

Progression

• Start with 2 touch to familiarize players with the pattern. Switch to 1 touch once the pattern is recognized. 

• Reverse the passing pattern to start with passing to the right, not the left.
