Warm Up (15 mins)

In a 30yd x 20yd area; 12-players; 6-balls

i) Pass & move around the area; NO Restrictions. Incorporate 11+ stretching

ii) Teach inside-foot "whipped" pass (low and curved)

iii) Teach the players to address the ball from a side angle to held with the strike and accuracy

Coaching Points

1) Body Position; How do the players address the ball? Is their body weight leaning forward or back? Are they addressing the ball from an angle?

2) Contact on the Ball; Does the inside foot skim across the outside of the ball to create a curved pass? Is there enough power to make the ball travel at speed? IE, Whipped. Do players trust the technique? OR do they pull their leg across the ball to try to create the curve?

3) Accuracy: Does the ball curve? Does it reach the targets feet? Can the striker of the ball adjust the height of the pass by adjusting which part of the ball to make contact with; low or middle?

Activity One (20 mins)

Using a third-field area; line 6-players in the center; 20-yds out and another wide of the penalty box.

 i) Player A passes the ball (inside foot) to Player B.

ii) Player B receives the ball with a touch forward and towards the end line.

iii) Player A runs around the flag (create angled run) and attacks the near post.

iv) Player B uses the "whipped" pass technique to cross the ball to Player A

v) Player A tries to shoot 1st-time from the cross if possible. 2-touch accepted if quickly taken.

vi) Players A & B switch lines and job roles.

vii) Adv, by adding a 2nd striker attacking the cross.

Coaching Points

1) Set Up: Is Player A pass out wide to front foot OR slightly ahead of Player B? Does Players B's 1st-touch lead him to apex of end line & penalty box? Does player A's run arc around the pole to simulate movement to beat a defender? Does Player A attack the front post / 6-yd box at speed once he's around the pole?

2) Technique: Is the cross 'whipped' in hard & low? Does the attacker make the correct contact with the ball to create a shot? Does the ball stay low? Is it easy to save (center) or very difficult (corners)?

3) Creativity: When 2nd attacker is added, does whipped cross become varied? IE, more height for middle to back post if desired? Do the two strikers cross over runs? Are players alert for rebounds? Does 2-strikers create more goals?

Activity Two (20 mins)

30yd x 40yd area; 5 v 5 + 2 to goal; 1-player (striker) must stay in attacking half but the other 3-teammates can roam anywhere. 2-neutrals out wide must stay in the channels and can play for either team, but never challenged in the channel. Rotate neutral players every 3-4 minutes.

i) NO Restrictions

ii) Must use wide neutrals in your attack.Goals scored from crosses count double.

iii) Wide neutrals given limited time to get the cross in. (game realistic)

iv) Defenders can go into channel to defend the ball. (game realistic)

Coaching Points

1) Natural Width: Having wide neutrals, do players utilize longer passes or switch of play to allow maximum space out wide? OR do they dribble to OR stand near wide neutral to give them the ball?

2) Creative Runs: Do players attack the box in straight lines (easy to defend)? OR do they arc their runs before attacking space in front of goal? Do they run in early and stand still waiting for the cross?

3) Quality Service: Are the crosses in "no-mans land"? Are they easy to finish? Do they cause maximum problems for defenders?
