Practice design:
Organisation
- 7 attackers (reds) will lineup by the right corner flag, the 6 defenders (greens) will lineup on the left cone by the half-way line.
- When coach says go, they both run vertically, around the cone at the top and into the playing area.
- A ball will be passed in play to the attack who attacks 1v1 with defender.
- Focus on defending technique in 1v1 scenario.
- Players swap queues after their turn.
Progressions/Interventions:
1. Progression - progress to 2v2's once players have mastered 1v1 defending technique.
2. Progression - add mini goals at other end to allow defenders to pass/dribble ball into one of those if they regain possession from attacker.
Planned Interventions:
- Coaching process to discuss 1v1 defending technique.

Practice design:
Organisation
- 7v7 including goalkeeper for defending team.
- team in green will attack the big goal.
- emphasis on the red team; how do they defend as a unit in addition to individually.
- if they win possession, aim is to transition quickly and score in one of mini goals.
- players must be past half-way line to score in mini goals.
Progressions/Interventions:
1. Progression - attacking team has only 10 seconds to attack; will make defending more intense.
1. Regression - Instead of 6v7 (outfield) in favour of attacking side, make it 6v6 with floater; will help the defensive side transition well.
Planned Interventions:
- Coaching process when the defensive side fails to shuttle across and cover space.
- Drive by instructing a player what technique to use when defending.
